Baseball Defeats Seattle U 10-3 to Cap Off Perfect Weekend

Gabe Brabec completed the third consecutive seven-inning start for Zag pitching

Box Score SEATTLE, Wash. –  Gonzaga baseball defeated Seattle U 10-3 on Monday at Husky Ballpark, capping off a perfect 4-0 weekend that saw the Zags earn their first-ever three-game sweep of Washington before a rematch with the Redhawks, who defeated GU earlier this season in Spokane.

Monday's game was originally slated to play at SU's Bannerwood Park, but was changed last-minute after recent rainfall made the conditions unplayable.

Gonzaga (6-12) got off to another quick start on Monday, plating seven runs in the first two innings to give starting pitcher Gabe Brabec (W, 1-3) an early cushion over Seattle U (8-12). The only run allowed by Brabec through the first five frames came off the bat of Kenny Ishikawa, who hit his second leadoff home run against the Bulldogs this season (March 5 in Spokane).

Brabec would scatter two runs in his final two innings of work, completing the third consecutive seven-inning start for GU pitching. All four of Gonzaga's starters threw at least six innings and earned winning decisions over the weekend.

Hudson Shupe scored three times and drove in two to bring his weekend total to eight runs scored and seven RBI, finishing 2-for-4 on Monday with a double and a bunt single that brought home GU's eighth run.

Tommy Eisenstat (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R), Gage Mestas (2-for-5, 2 RBI), and Luca DiPaolo (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB) each cashed in with multi-hit games for the Zags. Out of the bullpen, Ryan Hernandez and Karsten Sweum combined for two perfect innings, striking out three to shut the door on the Redhawks.

UP NEXT
Gonzaga will now turn their attention to West Coast Conference play, opening with a weekend series at Pepperdine March 21-23 in Malibu. The Bulldogs will then face Washington State on March 25 in their first of four midweek meetings with the Cougars to round out their current 12-game road trip, returning home to welcome Pacific to the Patterson Baseball Complex March 28-30.
