Pacific Defeats Men’s Tennis, 4-2

Zags (9-6, 1-1) face Saint Mary’s on Sunday

STOCKTON, Calif. – Gonzaga men's tennis (9-6 overall, 1-1 WCC) fell 4-2 to Pacific on Friday at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.

Pacific (10-6 overall, 2-0 WCC) claimed the doubles point by prevailing over Giovanni Branchetti/Kai-Luca Ampaw (6-1) and Tom Dunlop/Gus Krauel (6-2). When the dual moved to singles, Jay Fairclough/Nicholas Reeves led 4-3.

The 67th-ranked Tigers notched two more points — defeating Branchetti (6-2, 6-0) and Oscar Rashed (6-3, 6-3) in singles. The Bulldogs answered back, with Dunlop (6-4, 7-5) and Reeves (7-6, 6-4) winning tightly contested bouts.

Pacific clinched the overall match by outlasting Ampaw 7-5, 6-4. When the dual ended, Fairclough was beginning a third set after winning the first in a tiebreaker and dropping the second.

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs continue WCC play at Saint Mary's on Sunday (March 30).

MATCH NOTES
- Gonzaga men's tennis is 9-6 overall and 1-1 in WCC play this spring season, with wins against Eastern Washington (twice), Seattle (twice), Montana State, No. 69 Montana, UC San Diego, SDSU, and Portland.
- Entering Friday's dual, the Zags had won five of its past six matches.
- Pacific men's tennis is now 10-6 overall and 2-0 in the WCC, winning four straight duals.
- The Tigers were ranked No. 67 on ITA's March 25 list.
- Pacific beat Saint Mary's 4-0 to open WCC play last Sunday (March 23) in Stockton.
