MISSION BAY, Calif. – Gonzaga men's rowing concluded the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday, with the Bulldogs placing in all four final races.
"Really nice performance by all of our boats today," head coach
Dan Gehn said. "Nice way to start our season with some great results."
In a head-to-head with UC-San Diego, the third varsity eights crossed the finish line at 6:31.015, more than 13 seconds before the Tritons.
The Varsity 8 took second in the Cal Cup with a time of 6:01.497, behind UC-Berkeley (5:58.607) and ahead of UC-San Diego (6:04.539) — catapulting the Tritons based on prelim results.
Also placing second were the novice eights, whose time of 6:23.219 trailed only Oregon Coast College (6:19.640). The Zags finished ahead of UCLA (6:30.387) and UC-Davis (6:42.223), among others.
The 2V8+ took third in 6:19.639, less than a second behind San Diego (6:18.756). UC-San Diego claimed the race's top spot with a time of 6:13.121.
