Seattle U Completes Late Rally in 10-8 Win Over Gonzaga

GU opens a 12-game road stint beginning this weekend at Arizona State

SPOKANE, Wash. – Seattle U scored eight combined runs in the final two innings to complete the comeback win over Gonzaga Wednesday evening at Patterson Baseball Complex. After the Redhawks tied the game in top of the eighth, the Bulldogs regained the lead in bottom half of the frame but a four-run SU ninth inning sealed the 10-8 win.

Gonzaga (2-8) scored runs in each of the first five innings to open a 6-1 advantage, giving starter Garrett Gores a healthy lead over Seattle U (3-8). Before completing his sixth and final frame, Gores surrendered his second run as GU entered the seventh with a 6-2 edge.

Still trailing, SU began their rally in the eighth, plating four to knot the score at six on a grand slam from Sam Kane. Gonzaga responded quickly to take an 8-6 lead, but another pair of home runs from Seattle in the ninth vaulted the visitors back in front before closing out the 10-8 win.

Ty Yukumoto was 2-for-2 on the day, reaching base in all six plate appearances. In the fifth, Yukumoto connected for his first home run of the season, a 387-foot blast to right-center field. Later in the game, he drew a bases loaded walk to put GU back in front 7-6 to notch his career-high fourth RBI.

Despite the no decision, Gores was solid in his first career start, throwing a career-high six innings while scattering five hits and allowing just two runs.

Two-way player Kenny Ishikawa (W, 1-2) was the winning pitcher, pitching two innings in relief after starting the game in left field. Miles Gosztola (L, 0-4) was tabbed with the loss, lasting just one-third of an inning. He was responsible for the lead runner on Seattle's go-ahead homer in the ninth, which was surrendered by Finbar O'Brien.
