LAKE NATOMA, Calif. – Gonzaga men's rowing delivered a competitive effort on Saturday at the MPSF Men's Rowing Championships on Lake Natoma. The Zags competed in the first heat of the championships and will race again tomorrow.
In one of the most tightly contested races of the day, Gonzaga's Varsity Eight stayed composed and aggressive throughout the 2,000-meter course. The Bulldogs crossed the line in 6:09.289, edging out San Diego for third place and finishing just behind national powers Washington and Oregon State. With the result, Gonzaga advances to Sunday's Varsity Eight Petite Final.
Gonzaga's Second Varsity Eight faced strong competition in their heat, coming in fourth with a time of 6:32.086, behind California, Stanford, and Santa Clara. They'll compete in the Petite Final on Sunday.
Racing resumes Sunday, May 18. Gonzaga's first race of the day will be in the 3V8 Grand Final at 9:24 a.m., followed by the 2V8 petite final at 9:36 a.m. and the Varsity Eight petite final at 10 a.m.
