SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga's Sjakkie Donkers was named to the Preseason All-WCC Team on Wednesday.
Donkers, who will play the first game of her Gonzaga career next weekend, is expected to be a major piece of the offense for new head coach JT Wenger. Donkers was the co-Freshman of the Year for the Western Athletic Conference last year. A member of the U21 National team for the Netherlands, Donkers brings international playing experience to the Bulldogs as they gear up for a new season.
Donkers logged 289 kills in her freshman year, finishing second on the UT Arlington team behind an All-American. She also logged 207 digs and 32 blocks. Donkers scored double digit kills in 13 games last season. Donkers is the first Bulldog to be selected to the WCC All-Preseason team since Alyssa Hughes in 2021.
The Zags will begin their season at the Grand Canyon Invitational next weekend before returning to Spokane. Fans can get their first look at the new Gonzaga Volleyball team on September 4 through 6, when the Zags host three straight days of home games during the Gonzaga Invitational.
