OREM, Utah – Gonzaga men's soccer dropped a road contest on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-0 to Utah Valley at America First Field.
The Bulldogs (0-1-1) held the Wolverines (2-0-0) scoreless through the opening 65 minutes behind strong defensive organization and a steady performance from goalkeeper Chema Preciado, who finished with five saves.
Utah Valley broke through in the 67th minute when Toke Amtrup finished a cross from Gilles Aurelien. The Wolverines doubled their advantage just three minutes later on a goal from Lewis Knecht. Jordan Mangatal and Isaac Emojong added late strikes to seal the result.
Gonzaga created attacking chances throughout the second half, firing eight total shots and putting two on target. Alex Bazia led the Bulldogs with four attempts, including a shot on goal early in the second frame that forced a save. Drew Pedersen and Kobe Avila also tested the Wolverine defense with efforts from distance.
Preciado's five saves highlighted a gritty defensive showing for the Zags, who played the final 20 minutes a player down after a red card.
Gonzaga stays on the road next week to play Incarnate Word on Thursday, Aug. 28, and at Houston Christian on Sunday, Aug. 30.
