SPOKANE, Wash- Gonzaga Track set a new program record in the men's Distance Medley Relay while sweeping the event at The Podium on Friday and Saturday.
The men's team set a new program record in the DMR, running a time of 9:58.15. This was the first time a Zag team has ever ran the DMR in under 10 minutes. The result is the sixth fastest DMR time in Division 1 in Indoor track this season.
Ryan Mitchell and Tommy O'Neil kept the Zags in the front through the 1200 and 400 meters sections of the race, while Hayden Roberts excelled in the 800 as all three men kept the Zags neck and neck with a tough Montana Grizzlies relay team. Logan Law anchored the final 1600 meters to secure the win, making a huge move in the final lap to pass Montana and emphatically secure the win.
The women's team won the DMR as well, finishing with two teams within a second of each other to secure both first and second place. The team consisting of Maria Taggi Padro, Greta Dani, Olivia Ferraro and Alexi Fogo won the meet with a time of 12:16.3. This is the 11th fastest Women's DMR in Division 1 in the early stages of the indoor track season.
Hayden Roberts won the individual 800 meters with a time of 1:53.73, securing another win with a huge kick in the final 100 meters to pass two runners from Montana. Charlie Goss won the second heat with a solid performance to get a new career best of 1:55.28. Â
