SEATTLE, Wash- Gonzaga Women's Track will return from the Husky Classic with a brand new set of program records, as Rosina Machu and Greta Dani set respective new program records in the 3000 and 400 meters on Saturday.
Machu finished the 3000 meters in 8:55.35, the first Zag to ever break nine minutes in the event. She broke the previous program record by an astonishing 15 seconds. An outdoor track NCAA Championship qualifier in the 5000 and 1000 meters last year, Machu has now put her name in the national conversation in a third event thanks to her record breaking run in the 3k.
Greta Dani ran a 56.54 time in the 400 meters, setting a new sprint program record. She also ran a 25.54 time in the 200, nearly tying her existing program record in that distance as well.
The Zags set five additional times in the top ten times in the program history book, with two GU runners breaking into the top 5 in the 3k in an earlier heat. Logan Hofstee ran the fourth fastest 3k in program history in 9:13.66, while Jessica Frydenlund finished in fifth in Gonzaga history with a time of 9:15.18.
Alexi Fogo ran the 7th fastest 5k in program history, finishing in 16:37.18, while Anna Grabowski finished right behind her in both the race and the record book, clocking a time of 16:38.57.
Three Zags broke five minutes in the mile, with Frydelund also finishing third in program history after running a time of 4:41.23. Ava Sutherland set another personal best in her freshman year, running 4:51.21, while Jorun Downing rounded out the top finishes with a 4:59.56 time.
Gonzaga Track will turn attention towards the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 13th, with the final list of bids for participants to be announced on March 3rd. Outdoor Track season will kick off in Spokane on March 20th at the Sam Adams Classic. Â
