Zag Baseball falls to Minnesota 11-8

MINNEAPOLIS - Gonzaga Baseball (4-10) fell to Minnesota (13-3) by a final score of 11-8 at US Bank Stadium on Tuesday night. 

The Zags hit two home runs in a game for the first time this season and outhit Minnesota, but took the loss after stranding nine runners on base and giving up eleven walks. 

Minnesota took the early lead with a two run home run in the first inning. Noah Meffert's first home run of the season cut into the lead in the third inning before the Zags gave up an extra run in the bottom of the frame. Three of the four GU pitchers used tonight were tagged for  two or more earned runs.  

 Both teams scored four runs in the fourth inning, with the Zags briefly taking a lead thanks to a three run home from Jacob Wrubleski. The Zags then gave up runs on a collection of four runs from free passes, giving up an RBI hit batter and three RBI three walks to give Minnesota the lead. Mikey Bell and Ryder Young scored to give the Zags the lead in the fifth, but GU surrender two runs in each of the following innings by off of three doubles. 

The Zags will look to even the midweek series with the second game scheduled for 4pm pacific time on Wednesday.
