SPOKANE, Wash- Gonzaga Track and Field had a successful start to the Outdoor Track season on Friday, setting two new program records at the Sam Adams Classic.
Anna Grabowski started the season with a school record in the outdoor 3000 meters. She ran a time of 9:24.06. Logan Hofstee finished right behind her at 9:24.25, with both runners setting a facility record for Whitworth's track. Rosina Machu, Charlotte Dillion, and Anika Jones all ran a sub-10 minute 3k, running respective times of 9:34.97, 9:37.66, and 9:58.50.
Logan Schwartz won the men's 3000 meters with a time of 8:08.29, the second fastest time in outdoor track program history. He was joined by Mason Kissell, who finished with the third fastest time in program history when he finished in 8:11.20.
Maria Taggi Padro ran a 7:08.06 time in the 2000 meter steeplechase. Logan Law ran the top time for the men in the same event when he recorded a faster time than teammate Paul Talens by just .02 seconds, finishing in 5:52.58.
Greta Dani won the 400 meters, taking the win with a time of 57.18. She later ran a personal best time in the 200 meters, breaking her own program record to set a new high mark with a 25.30 time.
Clare Mullin picked up the first win of her freshman year, winning the 800 meters with a 2:12.52 time. Hayden Roberts continued his momentum from Indoor Track season with another win, taking the 800 meters after clocking 1:52.68. "I just trusted the workouts we've done leading up to this and it paid off. Ran a couple consistent splits and was even throughout, which is always good" Roberts remarked after his win. Â
The Zags will look to continue picking up more wins and personal best times in two weeks when they return to Whitworth to run in the Peace Meet on April 3rd.Â
