The Gonzaga men's tennis team opened play at the Boise State Invitational on Friday, facing BYU and Idaho in a back-to-back match day. The Bulldogs dropped a close 4-2 decision to BYU before bouncing back with a 4-0 win over Idaho.

Gonzaga started strong in doubles against BYU, securing the doubles point with wins on the top two courts. Giovanni Branchetti and Jay Fairclough edged their match 7-6 (7-4), while Oscar Rashed and Nicholas Reeves followed with another tight victory, 7-6 (7-6).

In singles play against the Cougars, Diego Herrera picked up Gonzaga's lone completed singles win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over H. Owen. Nicholas Reeves pushed his match to three sets, winning the opening set 6-1 before falling 6-4, 6-3. Oscar Rashed's match went unfinished after he won the first set 6-3.

The Bulldogs rebounded in their second match of the day with a 4-0 sweep over Idaho.

Branchetti and Fairclough once again led the way in doubles, winning 7-6 (9), while Rashed and Reeves secured the doubles point with a 6-4 victory.

Gonzaga carried that momentum into singles play. Oscar Rashed rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Mikolaj Lis 2-6, 7-6 (10), 7-6 (2). Tom Dunlop earned another point for the Zags with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Sander Paradis, and Diego Herrera closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Wang.

The Bulldogs will return to action Saturday to conclude play at the Boise State Invitational.
