MORAGA, Calif.- Gonzaga Baseball (21-14, 10-3 WCC) extended their win streak to eight straight games with a 7-2 victory at Saint Mary's (22-15, 8-5 WCC) on Friday. Gonzaga currently has the fourth longest active win streak in Division 1 baseball.
The Zags hit two home runs, with Maddox Haley and Ryder Young hitting a long ball to bring the season homer total to 44. This is now the most home runs in a single Gonzaga season since 2002.
Mikey Bell had three doubles, tying the program record for doubles in a single game. Bell, the WCC Player of the Week last week, now has nine extra base hits across his last six games.
Gonzaga was led by a great start from Justin Feld, who threw for seven innings and only surrendered two runs. He faced 31 batters across 98 pitches, effectively holding the Gaels off the board for another quality start. Landon Hood returned to the mound to close out the win with another two scoreless innings.
Haley started the scoring with his home run, crushing a ball to left field in the top of the second. Haley's home run appeared to land on the softball field that was connected to the outside of the left field wall. The Zags added a run in the third on a Gaels throwing error. Young then drove in another three runs with his homer in the fourth inning, his eighth homer of the season.
Saint Mary's only runs of the game came on two solo shots, with individual home runs in the fifth and seventh tightening the score. The Zags added another two runs in the top of the eighth, with Young adding his fourth RBI of the night.
The Zags will look to keep building on the winning streak when they take on Saint Mary's again at 1pm on Saturday.
