Orientation

All participants will take part in a Welcome Orientation. Time and details will be communicated at a later date. Hear from members of the Athletic Department from the areas of Administration, Academics, Compliance, Strength & Conditioning, Life Skills Development, Athletic Training, and others as we welcome our newest Zags! Look out for an email for the Welcome Orientation Lunch.

Programming
We feel that a critical piece of the transition to Gonzaga is the community building that happens during this program. So, in line with our Zags360 student-athlete wellness initiative, we aim in GUST to accompany these new members of our community by providing resources, environments to learn, and opportunities to get involved that help empower their learning and growth toward achieving lifelong wellness as they establish their place in the Gonzaga family.

Quick Facts
What courses will I take during GUST?
  • Your Athletic Academic Coordinator will be reaching out to you to discuss options of courses to take. These will generally be Gonzaga Core requirements that are applicable to all majors. Please let your Athletic Academic Coordinator know if you have taken any running start courses or have received AP credit for any college courses. Information about how to view your class schedule or order textbooks can be found on the Frequently Asked Questions page.
Where will I be living on campus during GUST?
  • GUST Participants will be living in Kennedy Apartments, an apartment style co-ed dorm on the northwest side of Gonzaga’s campus. Please visit the Summer Housing page for more information about your Summer Housing Application as well as what to bring with you for summer.
What options for a meal plan do GUST participants have?
  • While there is not a formal meal plan for GUST participants, students are encouraged to add Bulldog Bucks to his or her ZagCard to be used at local restaurants near Gonzaga. Additionally, there are full kitchens in each apartment in Kennedy that students will have access to (cooking supplies not included). Participants will be provided a list of local restaurants including ideal meal choices to encourage healthy eating habits and fuel for optimal athletic performance. They will receive nutrition education from Strength and Conditioning Coach, Mike Nilson, and a list of ideas and items for meal and snack preparation.
What type of academic support will be provided during GUST?
  • Each student-athlete will be meeting with his or her Athletic Academic Coordinator consistently throughout the GUST program to check in on academic progress and transition to Gonzaga. Students may have required study hall hours, as determined by the Athletic Academic Coordinator. Tutoring resources through Athletics, as well as through The Learning Strategies Management and The Writing Center across campus, will also be available.
