Biography

High School: Attended South Kamloops High...senior year named the Basketball B.C. outstanding high school player after leading the Titans to a 36-2 record and a third-place finish in the B.C. AAA High School Boys[apos] Basketball Championships...both losses came in overtime, including an 81-74 verdict to St. Georges in the championship semifinals after Olynyk fouled out at the end of regulation with 37 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists...went 16-for-29 from the field, including 2-for-5 from 3-point range...South Kamloops was ranked No. 1 throughout the season...came back with 46 points in the bronze medal game, connecting on 15-of-30 field goal attempts, 4-for-8 from 3-point range and 12-for-14 from the free throw line...also grabbed 15 boards, dished out 5 assists and had 5 blocks...in the AAA Championship he led the tournament in scoring at 36.5 ppg with 146 points in four games, led in rebounding with 15.5 rpg with a game-high 19 in the second round, shot 52.8 percent from the field (56-for-106) and 39.1 percent from 3-point range (9-for-23) in earning MVP accolades...paced the tourney in assists/game (7.2), blocked shots/game (3.8) and also averaged 2.2 steals/game to rank among the leaders... In addition to playing for South Kamloops, he is also a member of the National Elite Development Academy which also includes incoming Gonzaga freshman Mangisto Arop of Edmonton, Alberta...summer of 2008 was a member of the Canadian Junior Men[apos]s National Team and played in the FIBA Americas U18 tournament in Formosa, Argentina, with current Gonzaga teammate Mangisto Arop...quarterbacked the Titans football team, suffering a broken arm near his shoulder joint in a November, 2007, playoff game...rehabilitated the shoulder, earned the spot with NEDA and capped his high school career with an outstanding season that saw him average 35.0 ppg and 13.0 rpg...scored a career-high 54 points in a game in January, 2009.

FRESHMAN (2009-10): Played for Canada[apos]s Junior Men[apos]s National Team at the FIBA U19 World Championship in New Zealand, helping Canada to seventh place...lost to the United States in the quarterfinals...played with current Gonzaga teammate Mangisto Arop... averaged 11.2 ppg for 35th, was fifth in rebounding with 8.3 rpg, tied for 12th with 1.2 blocks/game and was 44th in assists with 1.7/game...scored tournament high 24 points against Kazakhstan, and scored in double figures in six other games...double-double against Spain with 10 points, 13 rebounds...grabbed 14 rebounds in seventh-place game against France...blocked 11 shots and had had 15 assists in nine games...came off the bench in all 34 games, averaging 12.3 minutes/game...three double-digit games - 10 at home against Washington State and Eastern Washington, and season-high 13 in West Coast Conference opener at Portland...went 4-for-6 from field and 4-for-5 from free throw line against Portland...grabbed 7 rebounds four times - Washington State, at Portland and at home against Saint Mary[apos]s and Santa Clara. SOPHOMORE (2010-11): Played for Canada in 2010 FIBA World Championships in Turkey in September...averaged 8.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg...after getting just one appearance off the bench in first two games, played 19 minutes and scored 13 points against France...played tournament-high 22 minutes against both New Zealand and Spain, scoring 6 points against NZ and 14 against Spain, going 7-for-9 from free throw line against Spain...went 8-for-13 from the field over the final three games...grabbed four rebounds in each of last two games...Canada was winless in five games. Misc.: Narrowed his choice of college to Syracuse University, Providence University, University of Rhode Island, North Carolina State University and University of San Diego.
