Drew Pascua is entering his fifth season as an assistant coach at Gonzaga. He works primarily with the middle hitters and orchestrates the blocking scheme.
With Pascua on staff, GU has recorded four-straight seasons with double-figure wins, extending the current streak to a program-record seven straight seasons of double-figures victories. Pascua has also helped mentor four All-West Coast Conference honorees and 19 WCC All-Academic recipients during his time in Spokane.
During the 2019 season, Pascua assisted Gonzaga to its best start since the 2015 season, collecting tournament titles at both the Service Academy Challenge and the Gonzaga Invitational. Multiple Zags continue to climb in the record book as well, as Katelyn Oppio ranks in the top 10 in career blocks, blocks per set, block assists and service aces while Sarah Penner ranks in the top 10 in kills, kills per set, attack attempts and points per set. Penner was also selected All-WCC Honorable Mention for the second-straight season.
In 2018, GU’s front line finished the season ranked third in the WCC in blocks, averaging 2.19 blocks per set. Over the course of the Zags’ season, three of Pascua’s middle blockers finished multiple matches with double figure kills and at least five blocks.
In his second season with the Zags, Pascua helped to lead a youthful squad to a 14-16 overall record, including a 9-9 mark in West Coast Conference play. Pascua was instrumental in the development of middle blocker Payton Mack, who was the first Zag named All-WCC Honorable Mention since 2012.
His first season at Gonzaga was one of the most successful in program history as he helped guide the Zags to a 17-11 overall record and a tie for third in the WCC standings. The 17 wins equaled the program's most since 1990, and their finish among the top half of the conference was Gonzaga's best since 1994.
Pascua came to Gonzaga after two years at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He helped lead the Cardinals to a 10th-place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament and a 22-16 record in 2015. Pascua worked with the middle blockers and the setters at NIC.
Before joining NIC, Pascua coached the men's volleyball team at Warner University in Lake Wales, Fla., during the 2007 season. He led that program to a 10th-place national finish at the NAIA level.
The Grass Valley, Calif. native also has extensive experience in coaching at the club and high school levels. He guided Santa Fe Christian's girls' squad to the California state title in 2003, 2007, and 2008, and he also coached at Honolulu's Mid-Pacific Institute and `Imi `Ike VBC.
On the court, Pascua played for San Diego Mesa Junior College and Warner University. He graduated cum laude from Warner with an exercise science degree while minoring in sport management.
Pascua, his wife Hedder, and their three children (Samonte, Everdeen, and Dash) live in Spokane.
