Women's Soccer Blanked In Season Finale

Nov. 7, 1999

Malibu, Calif. - Sophomore defender Amy Johnson scored two second-half insurance goals as Pepperdine University tallied three times in the second half for a 4-0 season-ending West Coast Conference women's soccer victory over Gonzaga University.

The Bulldogs finish the season 7-13-0 overall, 1-6-0 in the WCC under first-year head coach Shannon Stiles. The Bulldogs fell one win shy of matching the single-season school record.

Pepperdine (11-7-1, 2-5-0) took a 1-0 halftime lead wen Carlie Stokes scored her first goal of the season in the 22nd minute.

The Waves wasted little time in upping the lead to 2-0, Kate Desmond scoring an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute. Johnson's two goals came late in the contest, her first in the 80th minute and her second just two minutes later.

The Bulldogs, outshot 30-5 in Friday's loss at Loyola Marymount University, saw Pepperdine hold a 25-5 shots advantage. Gonzaga keeper Gina Legaz had 8 saves. Cheri Phillips and Lindsey Brouillette combined for the shutout, Brouillette called on for the only two saves of the match for the Waves' keepers.
