SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University women's soccer coach Shannon Stiles has announced the signing of five freshmen recruits for the upcoming season.
Joining the Bulldogs this fall are Ashley Haugen, goalkeeper, Heritage High, Littleton, CO, Heidi Jacobson, forward, Cedar Park Christian High, Bothell, WA, Rachael Manning, forward, Emerald Ridge High, Puyallup, WA, Jennifer Mills, defender, Skyline High, Issaquah, WA, and Stacey Sarro, forward, Inglemoor High, Kenmore, WA.
Haugen was a two-time first-team All-State selection for Heritage High leading the school to a 40-9-4 record during her tenure in goal. She was a three-time first-team All-Continental League selection and a three time member of the Colorado ODP team. Haugen finished her high school career with a 0.45 goals against average while posting 33 shutouts. In 2000 she helped guide Heritage to the Colorado 5A State semifinals.
Jacobson scored a school record 36 goals during 2000 season as she earned the first of two SeaTac A/B League MVP awards. Cedar Park Christian finished second in the state in 2000 before breaking through with a Washington State Championship in 2001. Jacobson was twice named to the SeaTac A/B League All-Star team and was named to the All Eastside team following the 2001 season.
Manning was a first-team All-District 3 selection during her senior year after leading Emerald Ridge High in scoring. She was twice named the team MVP and was a second-team All-Area selection. Manning was three year member of the Washington ODP team.
Mills twice earned first-team All-Kingco 3A honors as a defender at Skyline High. She was named to the All-Eastside team as a junior and senior as Skyline finished fourth in Washington 3A State championships in 2000 and advanced to the State quarterfinals in 2001. Mills was an honorable mention All-League selection as a freshman and sophomore.
Sarro comes to Gonzaga after earning All-Eastside honors in 2000 and 2001. She twice helped lead Inglemoor High into the Washington 4A Tournament finishing second in the state in 2001 and third in 2000. She was the team's leading scorer as a junior and senior earning All-Kingco 4A first team honors in 2001 and second-team honors in 2000.
