SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head volleyball coach Kip Yoshimura has announced the addition of three players for the 2003 volleyball season. Melissa Schickler, Kelly Steinhaus and Megan Thompson have all been accepted at Gonzaga University and will play volleyball for the Bulldogs next year.
Schickler recently finished playing at Marymount High School in Los Angeles where she helped her team win the CIF Southern States Division IV-AA and California State IV-AA Championship in 2002. Schickler is a 5-7 setter who earned one varsity letter as a setter and defensive specialist earning All-Tournament honors at the Capistrano and North High in-season tournaments. Schickler is from Manhattan Beach and plays for the Manhattan Beach Diggers club team.
Steinhaus recently finished playing at Flagstaff High School in Arizona where she was a two-year varsity starter. In 2002 she earned All-Flagstaff City League honors and was named the All-Grand Canyon Region team, earning regional MVP honors. The 6-1 middle blocker also plays for the High Altitude club team.
Thompson is a 5-8 outside hitter from Sequim (WA) High where she has earned three straight Olympic League MVP honors and four straight varsity letters. In 2002 Thompson helped lead Sequim to an 8th place finish in the Washington 3A State Championships. She has also earned four varsity letters in basketball with All-Olympic League honors on two occasions.
