Bell Ties For 6th; Gonzaga 8th

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Stu Bell shot a final-round 70 on Tuesday to finish tied for sixth at the Bill Cullum/Countrywide Intercollegiate men's golf tournament and help Gonzaga University to an eighth-place finish in the 15-team field.

Bell finished at 2-under par 214 over the 6,753-yard, par 72 Wood Ranch Golf Club with rounds of 70-74-70. The 214 is his second best 54-hole total of the season.

The Bulldogs, seventh after Monday's opening 18 holes that saw second-round play suspended due to darkness with golfers still on the course, shot a final-round 290 to finish at 882, one stroke behind Cal Poly and one stroke ahead of Southern Utah University.

West Coast Conference foe Saint Mary's College took an easy 24-stroke victory at 845 to easily out distance fellow WCC member Santa Clara University.

Joe Lanza of SMC captured individual honors with a 208 after rounds of 70-68-70 for a 2-stroke victory over teammate Chadd Cocco and the University of Utah's Dustin Pimm who finished at 210.

The tournament concluded Gonzaga's fall season.
