SCARSDALE, NY - Gonzaga University's Colin Floyd shot an opening-round 74 Monday to stand tied for fifth place after 18 holes of the Tillinghast men's golf tournament at Fenway Golf Club.

Floyd shot 38-36 over the 6,600-yard, par 70 Fenway Golf Club and is tied with Chris Agostinelli of Niagara University heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. George Zolotas of host St. John's University leads with a 71.

The Bulldogs shot a 311 and are tied in fifth place. St. John's University leads with a 297 with Villanova University second at 301.

Other Gonzaga scores Monday were Reyn Tanaka 78, Trevor Loe 79, Jimmy Hayes 80 and John Bergren 86.

The Bulldogs had to play Monday's round without a practice round under their belt. The Bulldogs luggage didn't arrive until 10:45 p.m. EST on Sunday. Gonzaga's practice round was scheduled for 12:20 p.m. on Sunday.

"We were able to walk the course, but it would have been nice to have been able to putt on these greens. They have a lot of undulation on them," Gray said.

According to Gray, the rough was about six inches deep because they had been unable to mow the course because of the 14 inches of rain in the New York area over the past week.

"The course was wet. They said they were lucky to even be able to open the course," Gray said.

The Tillinghast is named after A.W. Tillinghast who developed the Fenway Golf Club, as well as the fabled Winged Foot and Baltusrol courses. Fenway Golf Club is located approximately 30 miles from New York City.

Complete individual first-round results were not available from tournament officials.
