LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - The Gonzaga University men's golf team continued its long Spring Break trip as the Bulldogs are competiting in their third tournament in the last week. The Bulldogs finised day one competition at the Anteater Invitational in 9th place after shooting team scores of 319 and 325. The event will wrap up with one round on Tuesday at the El Niguel Country Club.
Trevor Loe was the Bulldogs top golfer with a pair of 78's that landed him in a tie for 31st. Reyn Tanaka was the only other Gonzaga golfer to card a round in the 70's finishing with a first round 77. Tanaka shot an 84 in the afternoon round to sit tied for 40th.
Matt Munroe is tied for 43rd while John Bergren is 48th and Jimmy Hayes tied for 51st.
David Kim of San Jose State University and Jay Choe of UC Irvine are tied for first at two-under after both players shot a round of 70 and 72 on the par 72 course. Josh Esler of the University of Arizona fired the low round of the day with a 67 to stand one-shot off the lead.
San Jose State leads the team competition at 592 followed by the University of the Pacific. Gonzaga is 12 shots behind Cal State Northridge in 8th place and four shots ahead of Idaho State University in 10th.
