Women's Basketball Downs Portland, 70-58

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -Heather Bowman scored 19 points and No. 24 Gonzaga turned a six-point halftime deficit into a 70-58 victory over Portland on Saturday.

Courtney Vandersloot added 14 points and eight assists for the Bulldogs (19-4, 8-0 West Coast Conference), who outscored Portland 40-22 in the second half en route to their 10th consecutive victory.

Lauren Angel and ReZina Teclemariam had 16 points each for the Pilots (15-8, 4-4 WCC), who held the lead for the last 10 minutes of the first half and the first nine minutes of the second half.

Portland was at its best during a 20-4 run that eat up 10 minutes of the first half and gave the Pilots a 34-22 lead.

Teclemariam led the way during that stretch with a series of slashing moves that opened teammates, especially Angel and Laiken Dollente, for uncontested shots. Dollente finished with 13 points, including two 3-pointers.

After falling behind 36-30 at halftime, Gonzagaa rallied in the second half behind the play of Bowman, Vandersloot and Katelan Redmon, who wound up with 12 points.

The Zags took the lead for good at 45-44 when Vandersloot made a steal and converted it into a lay-in. That was part of a 19-3 run that eventually put Gonzaga ahead 60-47 with 4:32 left.

Gonzaga's second-half comeback was fueled by a 53-percent shooting effort. For the game, the Zags shot 46 percent while Portland finished with 41-percent mark.
