Alvaro Nazal Wins EWU Fall Classic Final

SPOKANE, Wash. - For the second consecutive year Gonzaga University men's tennis player Alvaro Nazal claimed the EWU Fall Classic title with his victory Tuesday evening against fellow Bulldog Olivier Jamin 6-3, 6-0 at Gonzaga Prep.

"I'm proud of both guys," head coach Peter MacDonald said. "Alvaro has worked very hard and it speaks highly of him winning two years in a row. Olivier is always consistent for us and can play with anyone."

The match was the red flight final of the EWU Fall Classic tournament that began last Friday. The match was moved from Sunday at Eastern Washington University to Tuesday at Gonzaga Prep to prevent injury to the players after playing consecutive matches.

"It was a great weekend for the entire team," MacDonald said. "This should give us momentum moving forward into Boise."

In 2011, Nazal defeated former Bulldog Scott Sullivan to claim the title 6-1, 6-1.

The Zags hit the road next week for the Boise State Tournament starting Oct. 5.
