PANEVEZYS, Lithuania - Gonzaga University women's basketball incoming freshman Emma Wolfram and the Canadian Junior Women's National Team (JWNT) dropped an 88-54 decision to the United States in the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women on Tuesday in Panevezys, Lithuania.
Wolfram, a 6-5 center from Kamloops, British Columbia, put up a team-high 12 shots but was only able to convert on one opportunity. She ended the game scoring two points, grabbing three rebounds, blocking two shots and dishing out one assist in 20 minutes of play.
Jamie Weisner led Canada with 14 points and seven rounds while missing just one shot all game. Shay Colley contributed 11 points and Sam Cooper added 10 on the day.
A balanced USA attack featured five players in double-figures.
The Canadian JMNT is now 2-3 in the FIBA U19 Worlds and will play the host nation, Lithuania, July 24 at 8 a.m. PT.
Gonzaga head coach and USA assistant coach Kelly Graves and the USA U19 squad already qualified for the quarterfinals. The USA's final second round game will determine whether it advances as the No. 1 or No. 2 seed from Group F as the American women meet up against also-unbeaten France (5-0) on July 24 (10:15 a.m.).
The top four finishing teams in each second round group will advance to the Quarterfinals, which will be played on July 26. The semifinals will be held on July 27 and the finals on July 28, both of which will be streamed live online by ESPN3.
- On Monday, Canada JWNT lost 79-64 to China in the opening game of the Second Round at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women. In her first game back since a knee injury held her out, Emma Wolfram hit 7-of-9 from the field for a team-high 14 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
