PALO ALTO, Calif.—After eight total matches in four days, Alvaro Nazal's run in the ITA Northwest Regionals came to an end Monday with a loss in the semifinals at Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif.
Nazal squared off in the semis against West Coast Conference foe Ashot Khacharyan of Santa Clara. The Zag dropped the first three games of the first set before eventually falling 1-6 in the frame. He won three games in the second set, but fell 3-6 in that frame as well for a 6-1, 6-3 loss.
The match wrapped up a four-day tournament in which Nazal tallied five victories in six singles matches. Three of those matches went three sets, and he took out 83rd-ranked Emmett Egger in the Round of 16. The native of Santiago, Chile, also played two doubles matches with Nick Kamisar at the Northwest Regionals, advancing to the Round of 32 in the doubles bracket.
The Gonzaga University men's tennis team will be back in action this weekend at its own tournament, the Gonzaga Fall Tournament. The three-day competition will take place Friday, Oct. 24th to Sunday, Oct. 26th at the Stevens Center in Spokane, Wash.
