SPOKANE, Wash.—For the first time in 12 years, the Gonzaga University men's tennis program won't have to leave Spokane for a fall tournament. Instead, the Bulldogs will welcome eight other schools from across the Northwest to the Stevens Center for three days during the Gonzaga Fall Tournament.
The tournament will consist of two singles brackets—blue and red—and one doubles bracket. The two singles draws will have 32 players each while 31 doubles pairs will compete for the doubles title. Players from Eastern Washington, Idaho, Lewis-Clark State College, Montana, Montana State, Portland, Portland State, Seattle U, and Gonzaga will all compete in Spokane this weekend.
Gonzaga is coming off a trip to the ITA Northwest Regionals last weekend, and it was quite a trip for Alvaro Nazal. The redshirt junior advanced to the semifinals of the singles bracket for the largest run a Zag has ever made in that tournament. He tallied five singles victories over the four-day tournament, including one over Emmett Egger of Washington, who is ranked No. 83 in the ITA's preseason rankings. Two other Zags, Vicente Varas and Nick Kamisar, reached the Round of 64 last weekend in Palo Alto, Calif.
Matches will start at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25, with the final ones getting underway around 6:00 p.m. those days. On Sunday, Oct. 26, play will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude around 3:00 p.m. There is no charge for admission to the Stevens Center. Also, all courts can be viewed live here:

This will be the first fall invitational Gonzaga's hosted since 2002. The Zags have co-hosted the Eastern Washington/Gonzaga Classic numerous times since, but the majority of play took place in Cheney, Wash., during all of those tournaments. Also, GU has not co-hosted that event since 2010.
