Fahy Advances In Match Play Of PNGA Men's Amateur

PULLMAN, Wash. - Gonzaga University men's golf senior-to-be James Fahy has advanced to the round of 32 in match play of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association Men's Amateur being held at Palouse Ridge Golf Course.

Fahy, who entered match play as the 12th seed, defeated No. 53 Alex Street of Medford, Ore., 4 and 3 Tuesday in the round of 64. Street played his collegiate golf at Mercer University in Macon, Ga. He will face No. 44 seed Will Brink of Manteca, Calif., Wednesday at 8:26 a.m. Brink, a freshman this past season at UC Davis, upset No. 21 seed Matthew Rachey of Waconia, Minn., 2 up Tuesday.

The Fahy-Brink winner will face either No. 5 seed Tom Swanson of Missoula, Mont., or No. 28 seed Charles Kern of Mercer Island, Wash. Swanson was a freshman this past season at the University of Michigan while Kern will be a senior this fall at The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.

The round of 32 and the round of 16 will be played Wednesday, the quarterfinals and semifinals are set for Thursday and the final will be Friday.

Fahy, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, posted qualifying rounds of 71-65 for a 36-hole total of 136 that left him tied for 10th with two others.
