SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga men's and women's rowing teams will host Washington State on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Head of the Spokane on the Spokane River.

The Gonzaga women will start the day at 9 a.m. in the head race format and cover 5,000 meters. Boats will start in intervals and race against the clock. The GU men will follow at about 9:15 from the starting location upriver. The finish line and best viewing area is at the Gonzaga Boathouse near Felts Field. Driving directions are listed below.

Both teams will be racing competitively for the first time this season. This is the second scheduled race for the women's team, but the Head of the Pend Oreille was cancelled due to weather two weeks ago. The crew is coming off a historic season that featured a WCC Championship, a berth in the NCAA Championships and a program-best No. 17 national ranking.

"We are excited to get a race in, and WSU is always quality competition for us," GU women's head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "We are fortunate to have them close. And with Fall Family Weekend at GU, we are excited to see our athletes show their parents what they been working on."

On the men's side, head coach Dan Gehn's squad will hit the water in a race for the first time this season. The crew will look to build on the foundation established as a young team a year ago and make their way back to the IRA Championships.

"The guys are looking forward to racing, and this is a good challenge for them for only being on the water for a couple weeks," Gehn said. "This is always a great weekend for us because we have so many parents in town for Fall Family Weekend and they get a chance to see us come down the race course."

Exit on 282 (Trent/Hamilton Exit)
At bottom of exit take a right onto Trent
Follow instructions above once on Trent

From I-90 from East
Exit on 287 (Argonne Exit)
Head North on Argonne towards Mt. Spokane Park
Follow through four stop lights until you reach Trent
Take a left on Trent and follow about two miles
Take a right on Park Road heading North
Follow Park Road North until it ends at the river
Go left one block and thru the gates to boat house
Once through the gates follow gravel road until you reach the boat house.
