SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga men's came in second in a head-to-head race with Oregon State on Sunday at Silver Lake, Wash.
In the Varsity 8+ race, the GU squad of Danielle Moorhouse, Eric Engel, Joe Morris, Alex Yuska, Bryce Dillon, Alex Lund, Ben Duermit, Dylan Ojeda and Walker Capra-Smith moved down the 2,000-meter course in 6:36.13, just over 13 seconds behind the Beavers.
"Oregon State is strong top to bottom, and we didn't race them very well," head coach Dan Gehn said. "Those two elements don't make for close races. We've got a lot of work to do before we race Holy Cross, George Washington and Georgetown in Washington, D.C., next month."
Gonzaga put three more boats on the water, starting with the Second Varsity 8+ team of Max Baker, Connor Nash, Quinn Nash, Connor Murray, Kyle Hagmeier, Devon Billy, Atticus Patterson, Cole Garcia and Connor Mitchell. That crew had a time of 6:37.07, just shy of 12 seconds behind OSU.
The Third Varsity 8+ crew of Steven Peterson, Keagan Tice, Matt Hoitink, Jon Sailer, Carsten Beckwith-Strike, Josh Hoidn, Kale Reichersamer, Max Sombrowski and Connor Heffernan had a time of 7:16.59, while the Freshman 8+ crew of Douglas Kempthorne, Connor Nash, Quinn Nash, Eric Engel, Bryce Dillon, Jon Sailer, Kale Reichersamer, Max Sombrowski and James Ferris had a second-place time of 7:12.54.
