Walsh Tied for Second after Day 1

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Gonzaga men's golfer Sean Walsh is one stroke out of first place after Round 1 of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

Walsh is tied for second on the leaderboard at four-under-par (68). After opening two-over following the first three holes, he went six-under on the last 12 holes. The senior's six birdies, four on the back-nine, matched the highest total in the 116-golfer field Friday. It was the eighth time he finished a round under-par this season.

Angus Montgomery was even-par (36) on the back-nine and climbed to a tie for 19th place. He carded a 73 (+1) with three birdies and 12 pars. Ryan Gaske also had 12 pars, six on the front-nine and six on the back-nine. He is tied for 65th place at five-over (77).

Will Brueckner had a round of 79 (+7) and is tied for 88th place. He had 11 pars on Day 1. Ben DuBois is 18-over (90) after the opening round.

The second round on the Classic Club Golf Course begins Saturday morning. DuBois tees off first for the Zags at 8:20 a.m.
