CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The Gonzaga men's golf team climbed a few spots on the team leaderboard in the third and final round of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic Tuesday.

The Zags finished ninth at six-over-par (870). GU opened the tournament with a season-low 286 (-2) in the first round. It was one-over (289) in Round 3. The 289 total was the second-lowest of the season.

"We put together two decent rounds but our second round was the big difference," Gonzaga Head Coach Robert Gray said. "Reading greens was our achilles heel throughout the lineup this week. However, we found more consistency throughout the lineup and our finish on the final holes of the last round made a huge difference in where we ended up in the final standings."

Sean Walsh led Gonzaga on the individual leaderboard. The senior tied for 16th place at two-under (214). He fired a 69 (-3) in the final round, matching his first round finish. Walsh had four birdies and 13 pars to just one bogey over the final 18 holes. He has placed in the top-20 of all nine tournaments this season for GU.

"Sean found his game for the bookend rounds but got a bit out of sync for his second round," Gray said. "After his tough second round, he did a great job battling back with a good final round today, getting himself another top 20 finish."

Walsh and Angus Montgomery were tied for 36th entering the final round. Montgomery rose to a tie for 28th on the leaderboard following Round 3. He also had four birdies Tuesday. The junior followed up his even-par (72) second round with a 72 (E) in the last round. He was one-over (217) in the tournament.

"Angus also found his game after a rough showing in our last event," Gray said. "He continues to strike the ball better with each week and is real close to posting some rounds under par."

Tyler Munetake tied for 37th. He carded a 75 (+3) in the third round and finished the event with a 219 (+3) total. The freshman had three birdies and 10 pars in Round 3.

"Tyler continues to improve and be one of our top four players," Gray said. "His ball striking is good and just needs to shorten up his short game to find a little more consistency posting lower scores."

David Ganz and Ben DuBois came in 45th and 94th. Ganz matched his second round 73 (+1) with a 73 (+1) Tuesday. He was four-over (220) after 54 holes. DuBois had a 230 (+14) three-round total. He was five-over (77) in the final round.

"David has been improving steadily and played some real good golf," Gray said. "His consistency has been real good with four of his last six rounds at 74 or lower."

Colorado clinched the team title with a 281 (-7) in Round 3. The Buffaloes were 21-under (843) in the tournament, eight strokes ahead of second-place Sam Houston State. Four golfers finished at 11-under (205) at the top of the leaderboard.

Gonzaga has a break before the West Coast Conference Championships on April 18. The three-day tournament will be played on the Lakes Course at the Blackhawk Golf Club in Danville, Calif.

"If we can find the consistency for three rounds, then we may give ourselves a chance to win conference," Gray said. "But we'll need to be on top of our games to beat some of the programs that are playing very well right now."
