SPOKANE, Wash.--The Gonzaga volleyball team picked up a monumental three-set win (25-20, 25-23, 25-21) over Loyola Marymount Saturday afternoon, remaining undefeated at 6-0 in West Coast Conference play.

"Today, they were on a mission," said Gonzaga head coach Diane Nelson of her team after the sweep. "Their faces said every ounce of it, we're on a mission. They're in every point. I'm proud of them."

Gonzaga's middle blockers controlled play inside the Martin Centre as the Zags registered 12.0 blocks, the third-highest total this season and 10 more than the Lions managed. On the attack, Payton Mack and Alyse Whitaker combined for 16 kills and a .341 hit percentage. Mack led the way with seven blocks -- three solo -- while Whitaker added eight kills and four blocks and tallied the Zags' final three points of the match.

In the third set, both teams were tied at 21 apiece coming out of a Gonzaga timeout. Freshman Sarah Penner earned a sideout and a 22-21 lead for GU with a kill, and Whitaker posted two kills and a solo block to end the match.

"When we can pass and get them the ball, I let them go," said Gonzaga head coach Diane Nelson on the play of her middle blockers. "They have a game plan of their own, and they're pretty darn hungry...I knew if we could get our middles involved, they could stay ahead of their middles, and they did."

Also contributing at the net, Hailey Dunn assisted with a career-high four blocks, Penner added three, and Jenna Kuehn assisted one. Penner also led the Zags with 10 kills, her sixth consecutive match in double-digits.

Gonzaga (11-7 overall) is now 6-0 in WCC play for the first time in program history. The Bulldogs also extended their win streak to seven matches, which is the longest since taking eight in a row in 2007. This is also the first time they've won six consecutive conference matches since 1994.

Next weekend, Gonzaga will line up against two ranked foes in No. 19 San Diego and No. 8 BYU, both on the road. The trip begins Thursday, Oct. 12 with a 7:00 p.m. showdown against the Toreros in San Diego.
