A COUPLE MORE TICS IN THE WIN COLUMN:

  • The Zags advanced to 6-0 and tied the program's best start to a season after wins over Montana and Utah State...at No. 1 singles, Nevada Apollo picked up her first career wins atop the lineup while Graciela Rosas also did so at No. 2...a doubles ladder shakeup didn't faze the Zags either, as Gonzaga won both doubles points as well.
  • The wins ended a six-match homestand that opened the 2016 dual season...this week's contests in Honolulu and Reno will be the first road and neutral site matches of the year for Gonzaga.
  • Gonzaga also went 6-0 to begin the 2015 dual season...that equals the Zags' second-longest win streak under current head coach D.J. Gurule...they won 11 straight last season.

LONG TIME NO SEE:

  • The Bulldogs haven't played three of their four spring break opponents in at least nine years...the lone exception is Nevada, who the Bulldogs downed 5-2 at home last season...the aptly named Nevada Apollo picked up the clinching point after the Wolfpack rallied to tie the match at 2-2.
  • In tournament play, only three Zag doubles pairs faced opponents from the four spring break opponents with GU going 2-1 against doubles teams from Fresno State...of those three Zag duos, only the team of Sophie Whittle and Kate Ketels has played in a dual match...they downed the Bulldogs' Georgia Lawson and Juliane Triebe 8-6 to begin the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Oct. 21.

EXTRA, EXTRA!:

  • As their record suggests, the Zags have fared well when playing extra tennis...the team is a collective 15-13 in three-set matches...all eight Zags have played at least one three-setter, and seven are at or above .500 in them.
  • When sets are elongated, GU is even better...the Bulldogs are 14-10 in set tiebreaks, and they're 17-7 in frames decided by an extra game...freshman Kate Ketels tops those two categories with an overall tally of 7-3...sophomore Graciela Rosas and freshman Haruna Tsuruta each lead the squad with three tiebreak wins.
