Box Score Sept. 8, 2017

PHOENIX, Ariz.--The Gonzaga volleyball team began play at the GCU Tournament Friday afternoon, falling to Idaho 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) at GCU Arena in Phoenix.

The Vandals came out firing in the first set, hitting .625 with 15 kills and zero attack errors. Gonzaga's defense brought that mark down to .355 over the final two frames, but the Bulldogs hit just .061 during the match themselves.

Two Idaho players - Sarah Sharp and Kaela Straw - led the match with 12 kills apiece while Kaylie Loewen and Chapin Gray paced the Zags at seven. Sarah Penner topped GU and tied for the contest lead with 10 digs.

Redshirt sophomore Hailey Dunn earned a spot in the starting lineup for her first career start. She made her season debut last weekend at the Zags' own Gonzaga Invitational.

GU (2-5) will wrap up play in Phoenix with a pair of matches on Saturday, Sept. 9. The Zags begin the day by facing tournament host Grand Canyon at 10:00 a.m., and they'll end it against Fordham at 4:30 p.m.
