SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team is back in action Oct. 11-15 at the ITA Northwest Regionals, hosted by the University of Washington at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
"We're looking forward to this weekend to have another opportunity to watch them compete in match play," assistant men's tennis coach Cesar Vargas said. "We're looking forward to watching them compete and not just beat up against each other, and especially compete against some of the best teams in the region."
Last season, the Bulldogs saw a historic run by
Ruadhan O'Sullivan and
Sam Feit as the pair advanced to the semifinals of the main doubles draw. O'Sullivan and Feit became the first-ever Zags to advance that deep in the tournament; the pair fell to top-seeded California duo Billy Griffith and JT Nishimura 6-3.
Last season, the duo went 4-1 in the regional tournament and defeated two seeded pairs in the process.
"It's definitely going to be a test," senior
Emilio Moreno said. "Some good teams are going to be there, top 30 teams, top 50 teams in the nation. I think we can definitely do a good job at ITAs in doubles and singles; we're ready for that.
The tournament will feature 15 regional teams representing six conferences: Big Sky, Big West, Mountain West, WAC, WCC and Pac-12. Teams attending include Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's (CA), Santa Clara, Seattle, Stanford, UC Davis, California, Oregon, Portland, San Francisco, Pacific and Washington.
The Bulldogs will begin play at the ITA Northwest Regionals Thursday, Oct. 11. Official draws and start times can be found on GoZags.com once they are released.
