ORLANDO, Fla. – Gonzaga women's tennis senior Sophie Whittle defeated Sara Daavettila of North Carolina in three sets in the opening match of round robin play at the USTA Blizzard Wild Card Challenge on the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
 
Whittle defeated Daavettila 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 in a three-set tiebreaker Saturday afternoon. She is set to face Pepperdine's Ashley Lahey at 7 a.m. PT Sunday followed by USC's Salma Ewing at 1 p.m. PT. Following round robin play, the top two finishers will advance to the semifinals on Dec. 17.
