SEATTLE - Gonzaga baseball collected 11 hits, but scored just three times in a 5-3 loss at Washington on Tuesday night in Seattle, Wash.
Four Zags had two hits each, but they stranded 13 runners on base and weren't able to rally in the ninth after Washington's tie-breaking two-run homer in the eighth. After going down 3-2, the evened the score with an RBI single in the top of the eighth before the Huskies got their final runs.
"It was a good battle from our guys tonight, that's a winnable game that didn't go our way," head coach Mark Machtolf said. "We are ready to get another chance at them tomorrow."
GU starter Justin Blatner cruised through the first five innings, allowing just two hits in the span, but ran into trouble to start the sixth and ended up with three earned runs to his ledger with five hits, four strikeouts, and one walk. He pitched the final 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
