SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga men's golf team returns to the Wyoming Cowboy Classic for the ninth consecutive season Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole tournament is back on the Cattail Course at the Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
The University of Wyoming is hosting the 16th annual event on the Par-72, 7,334-yard course. The first 36 holes of the tournament will be played on Monday, with the final round on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs won the tournament in 2013 by six strokes. Peter Gullickson led GU with a seventh place finish. Sean Walsh shot one-under and placed 10th. Some of the Zags' best performances have come in the event, including the second-lowest 18 and 54-hole team-totals in program history. Walsh carded a program-low 65 in the 2014 Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
Last season at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, David Ganz led the Gonzaga with a two-over (218) finish. He was one-over (73) in the third and final round. The senior made 38 pars in the tournament, four shy of the most in the field. He went two-under on the course's Par-3 holes, with an average of 2.83 on those holes.
GU finished in 17th place. The Zags were 37-over (901) in the tournament. GU was 16-over (304) in the final round. UC Santa Barbara placed first at 21-under (843), led by Zach Smith, who took medalist honors at 10-under (206).
Both days begin with shotgun starts at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available on GoZags.com with links to GolfStat.com.
