Zags and Broncos meet for the 92nd time

THE TIP-OFF:
- Gonzaga and Santa Clara meet for the 92nd on Saturday in the McCarthey Athletic Center, at 6 p.m. GU owns a 61-30 advantage in the series.
- The Zags have won 40 of the last 42 meetings against the Broncos, including the last 17 straight matchups. Santa Clara's last win in the series was at SCU in 2011. The Broncos last won in Spokane in 2007.
- The Bulldogs are 40-4 against SCU under Mark Few, and 31-6 all-time in Spokane in the series, including 11 consecutive wins at home.
- Gonzaga is coming off an 89-55 win over CSU Bakersfield on Monday. Jeremy Jones recorded his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Rui Hachimura led the Zags with 22 points.
- Josh Perkins is second in the country with 106 assists and is third averaging 7.1 assists per game. Brandon Clarke is fourth in field goal percentage (69.5), third with 47 blocks and seventh averaging 3.13 blocks.
- The Zags are first in the nation in field goal percentage (53.3 percent), second with 289 total assists, second in scoring offense (93.7), third with 279 made free throws and fifth in scoring margin (22.7).
- GU has won the last four games by an average of 43.75 points.
 
SERIES NOTES:
- This is the 92nd all-time meeting between Gonzaga and Santa Clara. GU owns a 61-30 advantage in the series.
- GU has won 40 of the last 42 meetings against the Broncos, including the last 17 straight matchups.
- Santa Clara's last win in the series was an 85-71 home victory on Jan. 20, 2011. SCU last won in Spokane in 2007.
- The Bulldogs are 40-4 against SCU under Mark Few.
- Gonzaga eased to a 101-52 win in the last season's meeting in Spokane. The Bulldogs made 54.5 percent from the field and Seven Zags finished in double-figures. GU had 28 assists, made 13 three-pointers and scored the game's first 15 points.
- In the latest meeting between the teams, GU won at Santa Clara, 75-60, on Jan. 20. Josh Perkins scored 17 points, while Rui Hachimura and Zach Norvell Jr. each added 16.
- The Bulldogs are 31-6 all-time in Spokane in the series, and has won 11 straight at home versus the Broncos. GU's average margin of victory during the 11-game home win streak is 29.45 points.
- Santa Clara won the first all-time meeting between the programs, 67-62, in Santa Clara on Feb. 3, 1959.
 
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
- Santa Clara won its sixth straight game Thursday at home against San Diego, 68-56.
- SCU's Tahj Eaddy led all scorers with 30 points, going 12-of-12 from the free-throw line. Keshawn Justice added 12 points for the Broncos. Josh Martin grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds, while Trey Wertz dished out four assists.
- Santa Clara forced 20 turnovers and made 11 steals. The Broncos held USD to 3-of-16 from three-point range.
- SCU's six-game win streak includes victories over USC and Washington State.
- Four Broncos average double-digit scoring led by Eaddy's 16.7 points. Josip Vrankic (13.0), Wertz (12.2), and Justice (10.5) average double-digits as well. All four of those players are underclassmen.
 
A ZAG WIN WOULD ...
- Be Gonzaga's 27th straight over an unranked team.
- Extend GU's conference win streak to 12.
- Be the sixth consecutive home conference victory.
- Extend GU's home win streak to 15.
- Improve Josh Perkins' record to 114-17 in games he has played in for Gonzaga.
 
CONFERENCE OPENING SUCCESS
- Gonzaga has won 22 straight West Coast Conference openers, dating back to a 72-61 loss at Santa Clara in 1996.
- The Zags have won all 19 West Coast Conference openers under Mark Few.
- Gonzaga opened West Coast Conference play last season with an 81-48 home win over Pacific.
 
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
- The Zags won their 10th game of the season against UT Arlington on Dec. 18.
- It marks the fifth time in the past six seasons Gonzaga has entered conference-play with at least 10 wins.
- It's been eight seasons since the Bulldogs entered WCC action with more than three losses (10-5 in 2010-11).
