STANFORD, Calif. — The Gonzaga women's tennis team wrapped up play at the ITA Northwest Regional in Stanford, Calif., on Sunday.
Overall for the tournament, GU had three doubles pairs advance to the Round of 32 with two of them making it to the Round of 16. Three singles players made the Round of 32 with
Kate Ketels making it all the way to Sunday's quarterfinal round.
"Overall it was a good weekend for the team," head coach DJ Gurule said. "I feel that we have identified some things we need to improve upon, but I was so impressed with our capacity to compete. It was a fantastic tournament for
Kate Ketels. She has been working so hard, and she was focused throughout the tournament. We are looking forward to hosting the Gonzaga Invite in a couple of weeks to finish out our fall."
In doubles, the GU duo of
Cate Broerman and
Taylor Gruber narrowly fell in the Round of 16 by a score of 8-7(2) to the third-seeded duo from Stanford. The tandem of
Vlada Medvedcova and
Kate Ketels were also ousted in the Round of 16 against the second-seeded duo from Stanford.
Medvedcova earned a second-straight consolation singles victory on Sunday as well, defeating San Francisco's Mya Bui, 6-1, 6-2.
Haruna Tsuruta also picked up a consolation victory by a score of 6-2, 6-2, over Delanie Dunkle of Cal Poly.
Gonzaga will be back on the Stevens Center courts at home with the Gonzaga Invitational on Nov. 1-3. Links to live coverage will be available at GoZags.com.
