No. 2/2 GU Looks to Extend Nation’s Longest Winning Streak

Gonzaga goes for their 27th straight win over a WCC foe

THE TIP-OFF:
- Gonzaga and Pepperdine meet for the 87th time on Thursday in Spokane, at 6 p.m. The Zags own a 55-31 advantage in the series.
- GU has won 35 straight versus the Waves, with the last Pepperdine victory in the series coming on Jan. 18, 2002, 88-79.
- The Bulldogs have won 20 in-a-row against Pepperdine in Spokane. The last time the Waves won at Gonzaga was on Feb. 19, 1998, 65-64.
- Gonzaga is coming off a 79-67 win at San Diego. Rui Hachimura scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The Zags shot 58 percent from the field, including 69 percent in the second half.
- GU owns the longest active win streak in the country at 16.
- Clarke is first in the nation in field goal percentage (68.8), third with 82 blocks, and third averaging 3.04 blocks. Josh Perkins is seventh in the country with 183 assists and is eighth averaging 6.78 assists.
- Perkins is seven assists shy of tying the program's career record of 668.
- The Zags are first in the nation in field goal percentage (52.8 percent), first in scoring margin (25.0), first in scoring offense (90.2), first in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8), and second with 499 total assists.
- Through the first 12 games, the Bulldogs are outscoring their conference opponents by an average of 28 points.
 
SERIES NOTES:
- This is the 87th all-time meeting between Gonzaga and Pepperdine.
- The Zags have a 55-31 advantage in the series, including 28-12 in the meetings in Spokane.
- GU has won 35 straight versus the Waves, with the last Pepperdine victory in the series coming on Jan. 18, 2002, 88-79.

- Gonzaga won the last meeting, 81-67, in Spokane last season. Johnathan Williams led GU with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. Killian Tillie and Josh Perkins both scored 15 points.
- Gonzaga won the first-ever meeting, 93-70, in the Knights of Columbus Tournament in Portland, on Dec. 11, 1964.
 
SCOUTING THE WAVES 
- Pepperdine is coming off of a 72-65 loss at Saint Mary's Saturday.
- Colbey Ross scored 22 points for the Waves. Jade' Smith added 13 points, while Kessler Edwards and Darnell Dunn scored 12 and 11. Edwards grabbed nine rebounds.
- Ross averages 18.8 points per game and has thrown a team-high 197 assists.
- Eric Cooper Jr. and Edwards chip in 11.3 and 10 points per outing. Cooper Jr. has made 69 three-pointers, shooting 42 percent from behind-the-arc.
 
A ZAG WIN WOULD ...
- Be Gonzaga's 39th straight over an unranked team.
- Extend Gonzaga's national best conference win streak record to 27, including WCC Tournament games, 24 without.
- Extend GU's home win streak to 21 games, which would be the fifth-longest streak in program history.
- Improve Josh Perkins' record to 127-17 in games he has played in for Gonzaga.
 
WIN NUMBER 25 ... AGAIN
- GU has clinched its 12th straight 25-win season.
- The Zags has now reached the 25-win plateau in 15 of the last 16 seasons, and 19 of the last 21.
- Only Kansas (13), Duke (11) and GU have reached 25 wins in each of the last 11 seasons.
- Gonzaga has clinched its 22nd straight 20-win season.
- The Zags' 22-straight 20-win seasons ranks second for the longest active run in the country. (Kansas 29, Duke 22)
- Prior to the previous 21 seasons, the Bulldogs reached 20 wins in a season eight times since 1907-08.
- GU also has 30-win seasons in three of the past four years.
 
CLOSING THINGS OUT:
- The Zags picked up their last two wins in front of sellout crowds on the road at Loyola Marymount and San Diego.
- At LMU, Gonzaga led by two, 60-58, with 4:59 left in the game, before finishing on a 13-2 run.
- Combining the two road victories, GU went 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) from the field in the last five minutes, while LMU and San Diego finished 4-of-18 (22.2 percent). The Bulldog opponents were also 0-for-7 from three-point range.
- Gonzaga also made all 10 of its free-throw attempts in the last five minutes of the last two games, while its opponents were 5-of-10.
- The Zags outrebounded their last two opponents 14-7 over the last five minutes of regulation.
- In conference games this season, GU is 78.8 percent from the free-throw line and 53.2 percent from the field in the last five minutes of the game.
- In road games this season, the Bulldogs are 87 percent (40-of-46) from the free-throw line and 64.6 percent (31-of-48) from the field in the final five minutes of regulation.
 
CLARKE ENTERS CAREER TOP 10:
- Brandon Clarke's three blocks at Loyola Marymount got him to 80 this season.
- His 82 blocks are a program record for most blocks in a single season, but are also the 10th most in a GU career.
- He is three blocks from tying Cory Violette's 85 career blocks, which ranks ninth in program history.
- Clarke's three blocks per game average puts him on pace for 95 by the end of the regular season, which would rank seventh on the Gonzaga career list.
 
SNACKS TIME:
- Zach Norvell Jr. leads the West Coast Conference with 76 made three-pointers this season.
- His 38.8 percent shooting from behind-the-arc (76-196) ranks ninth in the conference.
- Norvell Jr. is eight made three-pointers from No. 10 for most three-pointers made in a single-season at 84.
- He's also third in the WCC with a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio, and 11th averaging 3.1 assists per game.
