SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga baseball got a three-run homer from Jack Krauel and fantastic performances from the rest of its 10 seniors on Senior Day in a 22-4 series-sweeping win over Lamar on Sunday afternoon in Spokane, Wash.

The Zags (28-20) scored multiple runs in six of its eight trips to the plate and held Lamar (16-34) to just four runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Gonzaga's offense continued to roll, pounding out 22 hits with four players collecting at least three in the game. Senior Nick Nyquist had a team-high four hits. Ernie Yake and Daniel Fredrickson each had three hits and three RBI, while Jack Krauel knocked in a team-high four runs with his first-career home run. Austin Pinorini had three hits as well, while Slade Heggen had two.

Senior starter Justin Blatner pitched into the sixth, allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Fellow seniors Trent Schulte and Taylor Davis pitched the sixth and the eighth and didn't allow a hit.

"It's a special feeling for the seniors to go out like this at home, and for these guys, they are good players and have contributed in a lot of ways," head coach Mark Machtolf. "They have been an instrumental part of our program and our culture. I couldn't be happier for this group of guys."

Gonzaga also got some good fortune from the West Coast Conference, clinching a spot in the league tournament by virtue of Pepperdine's loss to Portland. The top four teams make the tournament, held in Stockton, Calif., on May 23-25.

The Zags got on the board in the first inning for the third straight game, putting up a five-spot in the opening frame. Pinorini knocked home the first run, followed by an RBI double from Fredrickson and a sacrifice fly from Krauel. Slade Heggen then made it 4-0 with a single and Yake capped the scoring with an RBI single of his own.

Yake then collected two more RBI in the third with a double to make it 7-1, and one inning later, brought home two more when he reached on an error by the first baseman for a 9-1 lead.

Gonzaga added one in the fifth and then got another five-spot in the sixth, capped off by Krauel's first career homer to make it 15-2.

After three more in the seventh, Gonzaga got a grand slam from Josh Bristyan in the eighth to cap the scoring.
