DES MOINES, Iowa – Gonzaga men's tennis swept all six singles matches in a 6-1 win over Northern Illinois on Monday to wrap the third of a three-day stretch in Des Moines, Iowa.

After splitting its opening two matches of the weekend, Gonzaga (2-1) finished off the back-to-back-to-back stretch with a dominating singles effort. GU won four singles matches in straight sets and the other two in three sets. NIU (1-1) won the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3, while GU won at No. 1, 6-4, with Sam Feit and Matthew Hollingworth.

"We are going to emphasize doubles a lot this week in practice as it needs to get better, but I thought we showed grit by turning it around and sweeping singles," head coach Jonas Piibor said. "We are very excited to get to work this upcoming week and continue to get better."

Three Zags won first-set tiebreakers, including Feit and Eric Hadigian, who each won their matches in straight sets. Feit won at No. 1 7-6, 6-4, while Hadigian took a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 3.

At No. 2, Matthew Hollingworth was dominant with a 6-4, 6-3 win, while Vincent Rettke finished off his own straight-set win at No. 5, 6-4, 6-4.

Theo McDonald and Oliver Andersson completed the singles sweep with three-set wins. McDonald won at No. 4, 7-6, 3-6, 7-5, while Andersson won at No. 6, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.

Gonzaga will travel to Baylor University to take on the No. 5-ranked Bears in the first match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 25. Depending on the results, GU will then face either Louisville or New Mexico on Jan. 26. Check GoZags.com for links to live coverage.
