WROW Gears Up for Spring Season with Scrimmage at Seattle Pacific

Zags set to spend two days on Lake Washington

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's rowing team heads to Seattle Feb. 21-22 for a two-day scrimmage against Seattle Pacific on the Lake Washington Ship Canal in preparation for the upcoming spring season.

The scrimmage is the first travel trip of the year for the Zags, and it's the first of two meetings between the programs this season.

"We are thankful to Seattle Pacific for the opportunity to train in Seattle," head women's rowing coach Marisa Wortman said. "Seattle is a city with such a strong rowing history; this is also the first time we will be able to test our speed this spring. I'm excited for the team's first travel trip."

Friday and Saturday will feature multiple pieces of varied distances. Given that the two programs will meet again later in the season, it will offer a great way to measure improvement on the water from Feb. to April.

Gonzaga's spring season officially kicks off March 21 at Oregon State on Dexter Lake. The Bulldogs return nine from their top two varsity eight boats from 2019 including three-time WCC Coxswain of the Year Alexa Jadallah. The Zags also return WCC all-conference performers Lauren McCallumZoe Calambokidis and 2019 Newcomer of the Year Grace Cahalane for the 2020 spring slate.
