LOS ANGELES — Gonzaga women's soccer's Jordan Thompson was selected 50th in the fourth round of the 2022 NWSL by the Washington Spirit.
Thompson becomes the first-ever Zag selected in the NWSL Draft. She was recently named first team All-West Region by the United Soccer Coaches, the third Bulldog to earn the honor.
Thompson, the winningest player in program history, earned Second Team All-West Coast Conference honors in 2021 and started all 81 games she played in during her five seasons at Gonzaga.
Thompson was a part of 55 victories while at GU. The Sumner, Wash., native, also recorded six goals and two assists in her career with the Bulldogs, including three goals in six shots on goal throughout her senior campaign.
The 10th annual draft was held at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. Stanford's Naomi Girma was the first overall pick by San Diego Wave FC.
The Washington Spirit won the 2021 NWSL Championship. Players are set to report to a six-week preseason camp beginning on Feb. 1, before kicking off the 2022 season on March 19, with group play for the NWSL Challenge Cup.
