TUCSON, Arizona — Gonzaga women's tennis fell to Arizona in straight sets Friday at the LeNelle Robinson Tennis Center, leaving four matches unfinished as the Wildcats snapped a two-match losing streak for a 4-0 win.
Arizona clinched the doubles point early, with the Wildcats' Gitte Heynemans and Khim Iglupas dispatching GU's
Adrianna Sosnowska and
Hannah Jones 6-2 and Abby Amos and Talya Zandberg delivering the second by a 6-4 margin over
Kate Ketels and
Taylor Gruber.
In singles, Iglupas won in straight sets, topping Gruber 6-0, 6-3, as did Heynemans, who beat
Jenna Sloan 6-1, 6-2. The final match that finished saw Sosnowska fall to Jelena Lukic in three, 4-5, 6-1, 6-2.
Of the four matches left unfinished, three were singles —
Kate Ketels,
Cate Broerman and
Haruna Tsuruta had all won at least one set against their Wildcats opponents, and Broerman and Tsuruta had only completed the first game of their doubles matchup with Lukic and Kayla Wilkins.
With the win, the Wildcats snapped a two-dual losing streak to improve to 7-3 overall. GU experienced its first sweep of the season to fall to 5-2 with both losses being to Pac-12 opponents (Washington State), but the Zags have a chance to even the season series Saturday, Feb. 27 in a rematch at 9 a.m. in Tucson.
