SPOKANE, Wash. – Director of Gonzaga Cross country and Track and Field
Pat Tyson announced the signing of Sam Geiger Monday.
"We got another Papermaker," Tyson said. "Really like this strong young man out of Camas! Sammy has a mix of great speed and endurance. He's one of the best young talented runners in the Pacific Northwest. He is so pumped to wear the Gonzaga jersey and help the Zags to continue chasing excellence as a runner, student, and champion in the community!"

Camas, Wash. | Camas High School
Geiger will join the Zags in 2021-22 as a freshman after a standout career at Camas High School. He ran a 15:15 and placed third at the Nike Hole in the Wall. He also had a sixth-place finish at the WIAA 4A State Championships, crossing the line at 15:22 over the 5,000-meter course.
On the track, Geiger has a personal record of 4:15.12 in the 1,600 meters, and ran a 1:55 in the 800 meters at Bi-Districts.
"First of all, I want to thank the people around who have pushed me along the way to have the opportunity to run Div. 1," Geiger said. "With that being said, it wouldn't have been possible without those individuals around me and I'm grateful to continue my academic and running career as a student-athlete at Gonzaga University.
"By just looking at this roster, there is lots of guys who are working hard and just keep improving each year, which made me really want to come to Gonzaga. Also, you can't forget about Coach Tyson, the culture he has created there in Spokane has been incredible! Something else about Coach Tyson that is rare in some other coaches is that he wants to help every single student-athlete involved in running and wants to get the best out of them. I believe being a Bulldog fits me well academically too, just by looking at how many people have come out successful and I like the smaller classes too. I can't wait to arrive in the fall of 2021 in Spokane, oh and one more thing, Go Zags!"
