SPRING, Texas - The Gonzaga men's golf team finished in third place at the Colin Montgomerie-HBU Invitational at the Augusta Pines Golf Club hosted by Houston Baptist University.

The Bulldogs totaled an 883 (+19) in the tournament. As a team, GU led the tournament in birdies with 51 made in three rounds.

Charlie Magruder led the Zags finishing the tournament tied for eighth. In the third round, the senior finished even-par (72). Magruder finished the invitational with a 220 (+4) total.

Brentt Salas and Jace Minni finished the tournament tied for 12th at five-over (221). Salas ranked third in the tournament in birdies after making 11 in three rounds. Matthew Ruel was also tied for third in the tournament in birdies.

Ruel finished the tournament tied for 25th after a tough third round. The senior ended the tournament at six-over (224). Holden Backes finished tied for 31st with a 226 (+10).

GU finished seven strokes behind first place Texas Rio Grande Valley. Houston Baptist finished in second place. Individually, New Orleans' Grayson Gilbert defeated HBU's Marcelo Trevino in a playoff for the individual title.

The Gonzaga men's golf team will be back in action on March 22nd at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore., hosted by the University of Oregon. Live scoring will be available on GoZags.com

"It was a rollercoaster round today. We started off slow then fought back a bit then had a number of bogies in the middle and finally finished pretty well. The wind picked up earlier than expected, making it a bit tougher to hit greens in regulation.  We had a chance to catch the leaders but just had too many bogies to make up the ground. Overall, we still have some areas to clean up but it was a nice bounce back from our last event.
 
"Individually, we had three players finish in the top 15. Charlie posted another 72  to bookend the event with even par rounds and a T8 finish. Jace has been working really hard on his game and it was great to see all his efforts pay off with his first under par round along with his first top 15 finish."
