SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's tennis team defeated visiting San Francisco 4-1 Saturday afternoon inside the Stevens Center. With the win, Gonzaga improves to 3-1 in West Coast Conference play with an 11-4 mark on the season.
The team started hot with a clean sweep 6-0 on court one in doubles play from
Adrianna Sosnowska and
Hannah Jones.
Taylor Gruber and
Kianna Oda fell 4-6 against San Francisco's Maria Vaquero and Chiho Mushika on No. 3, leaving the deciding doubles point to No. 2 doubles.
Kate Ketels and
Haruna Tsuruta came back from a deficit to win 7-6 (7-0) in a tie break to solidify the Zags 1-0 advantage going into singles.
Hannah Jones was first to finish for the Bulldogs on court five, defeating Arianna Capogrosso 6-3, 6-1. Minutes later,
Jenna Sloan defeated the Dons' Caragh Courtney 6-1, 6-2 on No. 6. On court two, Sosnowska fell 2-6, 4-6 against Vaquero to give San Francisco its only point of the match.
Cate Broerman clinched the match 6-4, 6-2 to give the Zags their final point of the match and the 4-1 win.
Gonzaga hits the road for its next match against Washington State in Pullman, Wash., on Tuesday, April 13 at 12 PM.
